Lebanon Pager Blast: The eyes of the whole world are fixed on the Middle East after the controversy that erupted after the blasts of pagers and walkie-talkies in Lebanon a few days ago. At least 14 people were killed in the pager and walkie-talkie blasts. Hezbollah, active in Lebanon, has blamed Israel for this blast and has vowed to take revenge. However, Israel has not officially issued any statement in this matter.
According to a report by US news agency Reuters, the walkie-talkie batteries were laced with highly explosive PETN. A Lebanese source told the news agency that the way the explosive was placed in the battery pack made it extremely difficult to detect. PETN, or pentaerythritol tetranitrate, is a highly potent explosive. It is sensitive to shock and heat, making it prone to explosions if deliberately triggered.
Hezbollah declared war
On Thursday, September 19, Hezbollah chief Nasrallah declared war on Israel. Nasrallah said that the Israeli army was behind the pager and walkie talkie attacks. On Friday, September 20, Israel and Hezbollah bombed each other. The Israeli army said that its air force carried out targeted strikes on Lebanon’s capital Beirut. The IDF said in a statement, “140 rockets were fired from Lebanon on northern Israel. The air defense system destroyed 120 rockets.”
The IDF said, “Air Force warplanes attacked several military buildings used by Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.”
With the direction of IDF intelligence, the IAF struck approximately 30 Hezbollah launchers and terrorist infrastructure sites, containing approximately 150 launcher barrels that were ready to fire projectiles toward Israeli territory.
